Women – Thailand’s Greatest Export
Thailand’s real superpower may not be beaches, temples or spicy food.
It’s the women.
Lisa and newcomer Nene Royal could hardly be more different. Yet both are proof of what happens when talent meets ambition — and a father figure who spots it early and refuses to let it go to waste.
Lisa took the hard road out: from Thailand to South Korea’s brutally competitive K-pop machine, where future superstars are drilled, polished and perfected. Years of training turned raw talent into global precision.
At home, her Swiss stepfather had called her “superstar” from an early age. The rest of the world needed a few years to catch up.
Nene Royal comes from another universe. Wild, rock ’n’ roll and seemingly allergic to polish, she spent years as a young girl busking at Naka Weekend Market. She taught herself guitar from online videos, and then won America’s Got Talent. Her education was the street, the crowd her teacher. Less talent factory, more survival instinct.
Lisa mastered the machine.
Nene looks ready to kick it.
Neither had an easy ride. Both had a father figure in the background pushing them forward when there was no guarantee of anything at the end of the road: Nene’s father, and Lisa’s Swiss stepfather, who called her “superstar” long before anyone else did.
And perhaps that is the more interesting Thai success story: not two girls who were discovered, but two girls who refused to stay undiscovered.
Different routes. Different weapons. Same determination.
Thailand has been exporting its women for generations — to husbands, homes and lives all over the world. Now it is exporting something else: superstars.
Thailand has no shortage of great assets.
But its women?
That may be the country’s greatest export.
