Crown Prince Incognito

“Incognito in a BMW through Stuttgart.” That’s how German tabloid BILD titled a story about the crown prince of Thailand, Maha Vajiralongkorn, having been spotted in Stuttgart.

“This driver,” the paper says, “is the crown prince of Thailand. We see a gentleman in a pilot uniform at the Stuttgart luxury hotel Le Meridien. He gets into a BMW 5-series.”

What is His Excellency doing in Swabia, the paper asks. And BILD found out: He’s completing the flight training on a Boeing 757. Accompanied by his wife and a royal household of 25 staff.

After his arrival on Aug. 2 at the airport he didn’t take the waiting luxury limousine with chauffeur. “He preferred,” says BILD, “the BMW of his consul and got himself behind the wheel.”

After some shopping at Königstraße he dined at Stuttgart’s gourmet temple Irma la Douce. Said the chef: “He came very relaxed and casual in sweatshirt and jeans.”

Eating “Achalmer Weidelamm, Seeteufel-Medaillon, Garnelen und Frucht-Sorbet.” Lamb, fish, prawns and fruit sorbet.

Back to the hotel it was the crown prince again behind the wheel — with the chauffeur in the back seat.
